Caring Calls Program - Northern Light Home Care & Hospice

Who We Are

Caring Calls is a free program that provides daily telephone contact for any individual who lives alone.

Caring Calls has a pool of trained volunteers who staff the phones Monday through Friday from 8 am to 9:30 am to greet participants at an assigned time.

What We Do

Volunteers come to the Northern Light Home Care and Hospice Office located on Union Street in Bangor to make the calls. They staff the phone lines Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.  At the time the participant joins the program they select a designated call time between 8:00 and 9:30, based on their routine.  Some participants are pretty independent and will call the office before the volunteers even arrive at the office.  These participants leave a voice message on our answering machine stating they are ok. Other participants will call in at their designated call time. If we haven’t heard from a participant by their designated call time, the volunteers will call them.  Volunteers have strict protocols they follow if a participant is unable to be contacted by their assigned call time, this ensures participant’s safety.

During the calls, volunteers will greet participants at their assigned call time and chat a minute.  They share the joys on a good day and cheer the participants on the gloomier ones.
