Mission Statement: The purpose of the institution shall be to provide and carry into effect childcare services. The institution shall be non-sectarian. It shall have the powers and be subject to the duties which are provided for by the several acts of the legislature of Maine in its behalf or which are otherwise given or acquired by law. Vision: Hilltop School provides a high quality early care and education program that incorporates a developmentally appropriate curriculum for a diverse and inclusive community of children and families. The program is fiscally sound and operates with full enrollment. The Board of Directors and staff are committed to a common mission and strategic plan that includes input from families served. Hilltop School is accredited by NAEYC and has achieved a Step 4 rating on Quality for ME. The Bangor Female Orphan Asylum was established in 1836, an institution open to orphaned, abandoned and destitute girls from throughout the region. Located first on Fourth Street the present building was constructed in 1869 and expanded services to include boys as well as girls. In the late twentieth century, it became a school and childcare facility.
What We Do
Hilltop School provides a year round high quality childcare/preschool experience for children ages 2 1/2 years old through kindergarten. We offer the choice of a full day program or a morning program. During the summer months, we offer a summer camp program for children in grades Kindergarten through second grade.
