My Friend's Place mission is to provide adults a safe, supportive, and friendly environment that offers life-enriching social and recreational activities, and respite for caregivers. Our program started in April 2001. We began serving four people and now have a total of 30 slots for enrollment. We continue to provide a ratio of 1 volunteer to every two participants in the My Friend's Program. We have maintained a reasonable monthly rate for services, one of the lowest in the community.
What We Do
We are a nonprofit, licensed adult day care social program featuring a variety of social and supportive services in a safe, protective home environment during daytime hours. And we would not be able to do what we do without the support of volunteers! Our volunteers take on special roles including planning and running programs in teams, becoming advocates for participants, and creating special relationships as a group. Responsibilities range and can be tailored to meet the interests of volunteers. From decorating, serving snacks, playing games, singing songs, to team check-ins for information regarding participants or coordinating planning. OH! The most unique thing about My Friend's Place? Themed days which promote learning, reminiscence, recall, and just plain FUN! For example this fall one day was Apples. We talked about memories picking apples and cooking apples, made applesauce together to have as a treat after lunch, and played apple related games. Today's theme is Newspapers. Participants will be featured in a newspaper story, talk about what sections are in a newspaper, how you can get a newspaper, and share newspaper jokes. Please consider volunteering at My Friend's Place! We would love to have you!
