As Maine's largest Federally Qualified Health Center and only Teaching Health Center, PCHC is committed to the transformation of the health care system and becoming a national model for Community Health Centers in America. We are passionate about our Mission at PCHC ? providing access to patient-centered, high-quality, comprehensive, integrated health care services regardless of ability to pay. PCHC, a non-profit organization founded in 1997, is the only Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the Greater Bangor area, in Waldo County, and the Jackman Region. PCHC is by far the largest FQHC in Maine, the 2nd largest and most comprehensive of the 100 FQHCs in New England, and one of the largest non-hospital primary care systems in Maine. PCHC's growth is due to high quality care and exceptional access. PCHC staff has grown from 25 employees ten years ago to 700 employees in 2013. We had just 4,000 patients ten years ago and provide care for about 60,000 patients today.
What We Do
Eighteen practices and program service sites in the Bangor area, as well as Belfast and Jackman, offer a wide range of services including family medicine, dental, pediatrics, geriatrics, nursing home care, psychiatry, mental health and substance abuse services, physical therapy, lab, x-ray, pharmacy and healthcare for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness. In addition, PCHC has a team of medical specialists who deliver a wide range of specialty services including allergy, gynecology, orthopedics, podiatry, dermatology and osteopathic manipulative therapy. All PCHC services are provided with a sliding fee scale based on income to make certain that everyone can obtain the healthcare services they need. Quality of Care is our highest priority: Our practices have earned national certifications from the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) for evidence-based medicine and PCHC is the only of the 20 FQHCs in Maine Accredited by the Joint Commission. PCHC is the first health care organization in Maine, and only the 11th in the US certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Care Medical Home. Electronic health records have been used since 2002 to provide proactive, preventative, planned care.
