Who We Are
Porter Memorial Library serves as a cultural center for the Machias area by promoting the enjoyment of reading, the value of learning, and the exploration of ideas. The Library opened in 1893, and is named for Rufus King Porter, Esq., a leader of the organized library movement in Machias. The Library's 12,000 volume collection features current and classic fiction, nonfiction, Maine history and literature, books for young adults, and books for children. The Maine Case houses the Library's local history and genealogy reference works. We also offer audio books, movies, magazines, newspapers, Wifi and public access computers.
