Who We Are

Partners for Peace has two important goals:

  1. We serve people affected by domestic abuse
  2. We work to end personal, institutional, and cultural violence

Partners for Peace was formed from the collaborative merger of Spruce Run and Womancare on October 1, 2013. Spruce Run was the first domestic violence project in Maine and just the third in the country when we incorporated in 1973.  Womancare was incorporated in the State of Maine in 1979. Since then, we’ve grown to an agency with a paid staff of over 20 and comprehensive services for people affected by abuse. We are grateful for the goodwill and contributions of the people of Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties and beyond who help fund our work and who serve as volunteers in countless capacities.

Our services are free and are designed to help each individual think through and understand their options, make informed decisions, and achieve and maintain safety, autonomy, and self-sufficiency.

Partners for Peace is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, funded primarily by the Maine Department of Health & Human Services, United Way of Eastern Maine, Maine Housing, and the generous donations of people and businesses in the communities we serve. Partners for Peace is a member in good standing of the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence, the statewide coalition of domestic violence projects.

What We Do

Our Mission: To engage individuals and the community to end domestic violence in Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties. We provide support, advocacy and safety planning to anyone affected by domestic abuse. We foster safe and healthy relationships through prevention, education and training. Together with our community we recognize the nature of abuse, respond to it, and change the conditions which lead to it.

Our Vision: We believe that every person deserves to live in peace and equality, and that just and respectful relationships can change the world.
