Heart of Maine United Way

Who We Are

Founded in 1937, Heart of Maine United Way supports the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community.  Through donations and volunteer hours we are able to positively impact  health and human service agencies, programs, and initiatives that improve the lives of over 50,000 people each year in our six county region of Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo, and Washington.  The foundations of our communities are strengthened as we work, united, to provide access to early childhood education, keep seniors active and involved, provide supports for at-risk youth, help people with disabilities, build safer communities, provide for basic needs, prevent violence, and so much more.

What We Do

To achieve our mission, Heart of Maine United Way will energize and inspire people to make a difference; build coalitions around impact agendas; increase investments in these agendas; measure, communicate and learn from our results; and we will improve income, health and education within our targeted impact populations. The results of these efforts allow us to make measurable changes in the community by focusing our funding, volunteer time, and other resources for the greatest impact.  As we positively impact the identified issues, and as the needs of the community change, so will our focus.  We are committed to staying at the leading edge of the issues, allowing us to make true and sustainable improvements in the place we all call home.

If you are finding us after office hours and your need is critical, please contact our resources helpline by dialing 2-1-1.  Someone will be there to take your call and offer whatever help they can.
