Who We Are

Day one of a cancer diagnosis begins a financial and health crisis for many Mainers. CBF can help and so can you. Join us

Our Mission

The Christine B. Foundation (CBF) is a non-profit, community-based service provider in Bangor, ME. Our mission is to support those facing cancer by extending access to healthy food, nutritional information, and community connections essential to their strength and comfort.

From your point of diagnosis, through treatment, and into recovery, our staff and volunteers across Piscataquis, Penobscot, Hancock, and Washington Counties commit to providing no-cost nutrition services for you and your family.

Each year, 1,500 Mainers rely on CBF for cancer nutrition assistance, educational conferences, and individualized referral coordination. Cancer remains the leading cause of death in the State of Maine. We’re proud to work with partners and align our work to address rural Maine communities' rising incidence and mortality rates.

Our Vision

The Christine B. Foundation envisions a world in which nutrition is a standard of care for everyone diagnosed with cancer. In collaboration with a robust network of mission-aligned volunteers, businesses, healthcare providers, and community partners, CBF will deepen understanding of nutrition's vital importance in removing barriers to care and treating cancer.

“Nearly 1 in 5 cancers are caused by poor diet and physical inactivity (ACS).

Here at CBF, we know access to healthy foods and nutritional information will save lives. Join us.”

— Matt Dexter, CBF Founder + Executive Director

The organization's namesake, Christine, was an active volunteer, mother of two, sister, social worker, and wife who lost her battle with stomach cancer in 2008. Her family, friends, and the Maine community came together to support others facing this chronic disease.

What We Do

CBF provides a range of nutrition services at no cost for patients with cancer, including produce prescriptions, medically tailored grocery packages, and dietitian counseling.
