This group provides an opportunity for the adults in the family to connect with other adults and build a support system, while their children play together. Volunteer: At Home Volunteer OpportunitiesAt Home is a member-based, volunteer-supported program of the Washington Hancock Community Agency designed to provide older residents with core services empowering them to continue to live independently in their cherished homes. At Home provides services on the Blue Hill Peninsula/Deer Isle/Stonington and Mount Desert Island. Volunteers provide an array of services which include: transportation to medical appointments, grocery store, errands, religious services, social activities; friendly telephone calls; companionship; occasional meal preparation; small house chores and maintenance; snow shoveling; library services and reading aloud; technology support; card and letter writing; share a love of music or art. Our volunteers report that the experience makes them feel fantastic! They love knowing that they are helping their friends and neighbors maintain their independence, while at the same time, they are supporting a sustainable organization that will be here to help them when they need it. At Home staff work with the volunteers to make sure that the volunteer's schedule is well matched to the member's needs. We have opportunities for every level of involvment, from once a month to 7 days a week. At Home welcomes volunteers of all ages, although we ask that volunteers under age 16 be accompanied by an adult.
