Volunteer: Full-Time One-Year Americorp VISTA PositionPiscataquis Regional Food Center’s (PRFC) was established in 2017 to eliminate hunger in Piscataquis County, Maine, by connecting individuals with the services and knowledge they need to thrive. PRFC also supports regional agriculture by providing farms with facilities and infrastructure to help them expand their markets. During the year of service at PRFC, the AmeriCorps VISTA member will engage in a variety of tasks that span three primary areas: free summer meals, FarmShare for HomeBound Seniors, and developing the organizational and volunteer capacity of local hunger relief agencies. The service includes developing new content for a year-long monthly community hunger awareness ad campaign; conducting community outreach about regional hunger-relief programs through PRFC’s website and Facebook page; assisting with volunteer recruitment and training; conducting SNAP training to increase program enrollment; organizing and promoting educational events held by PRFC and its community partners; creating at least one instructional guide for a PRFC program that can be shared with other communities in Maine that seek to provide a similar offering; and promoting the 2019 FarmShare for HomeBound Seniors service, recruiting FSHS volunteers, and enrolling eligible community members.
