The kitchen is a critical facet of the emergency shelter and the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter, and is used almost constantly. Enjoy fast-paced work centered around food? Join us as a Kitchen Volunteer at the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter & Services and play a crucial role in contributing to our work. Examples of Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Working with our kitchen manager to prepare meals
  • Sorting food items (i.e. vegetables and fruit, baked goods, etc.)
  • Basic cleaning (sweeping, mopping, sanitizing surfaces, etc.)
  • Washing dishes
  • Serving meals to guests

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to treat guests with dignity and respect
  • Ability to understand and maintain boundaries
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to safe food handling guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude
  • Safe Food Handling experience or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work with people from all walks of life
