Delivery Driver & Supplemental Food Distribution Volunteer (Milo/Dover)

Description

The volunteer will be responsible for helping to load 30+-pound commodity boxes and/or pet food into consumers' vehicles throughout the distribution, which runs from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at the American Legion (18 Main St, Milo). Before the distribution, the volunteer will need to pick up the pet food at PRFC in Dover and transport it to the Milo distribution. Then, after the distribution, they will need to take the remaining pet food and boxes back to Dover and drop them off at Central Hall Commons.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Picks up products at central distribution location.
  2. Follows written and oral directions of Local Coordinator to make deliveries.
  3. Reports any client concerns to Local Coordinator immediately (examples include but not limited to: patron not home or ill; Adult Protective Service (APS) issues; something seems different or unusual).
  4. Tracks and reports volunteer hours and mileage to Local Coordinator as directed.
  5. Practices food/product safety standards during performance of duties as advised by supervisor.       
  6. Understands that distracted driving (talking on phone, texting, reading map etc.) is prohibited.
  7. Demonstrates ability to accurately and securely handle money and provide receipts as well as perform basic mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
  8. Long Distance Drivers may be asked to:
    1. Lift and transport goods into specified locations
    2. Deliver goods outside of regular working hours (8am-4:30pm)
    3. Use company vehicle with prior approval

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Maintains confidentiality of all client information.
  2. Represents Eastern Area Agency on Aging positively by remaining flexible and maintaining a pleasant, friendly and sociable attitude.
  3. Ability and willingness to travel for position-related requirements.
  4. Provide at least 24 hours notice, whenever possible, when not able to attend scheduled volunteer time due to other obligations or illness.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:

Experience and Skills Preferred:

  • Willingness and interest in helping the elderly population
  • Ability to navigate rural Maine

 Education/Skills:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Knowledge of services and programs available for older persons preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Volunteer must be able to lift 35lb boxes.
