Gleaning is the rescuing of food that might otherwise go to waste. We work with farms, producers and others to ensure that all food is made available to food security organizations in Washington County. Each spring we work with local farms to support their outstanding efforts to provide food pantry and other donations and to allow gleaning at their farm. There are regular weekly events, occasional gleanings that happen at the spur of the moment and larger gleaning events that happen throughout the season. See the Maine Gleaning Network website for more information on state-wide events. Come join us- learn how to grow your own food, how farmers in our area manage their operations and make new friends! Our season typically runs from April to November with July through September being our time of greatest need for support and volunteers.
You can also go directly to Healthy Acadia's Volunteer Registration page to sign up for gleaning events.
