Description

Join us to help increase access of fresh food at our local food pantries through our Downeast Gleaning Initiative.

Throughout the spring, summer and fall (May through October), we have regular and single day events to collect food that might otherwise go to waste. We harvest at local farms and community gardens, and deliver the food to pantries and communities in need, so that more residents can enjoy healthy fresh food. We welcome school and other groups.

Beginning in May we are looking for people to join us at area farms or community gardens.

On Monday mornings we are looking for able bodies to share in the fun at Washington Academy's East Machias food bank garden (4 Cutler Rd, East Machias, ME 04630).

On Tuesday mornings we are looking for able bodies to join us at our new Community Food Bank Garden (Downeast Restorative Harvest Project), on Broadway next to the Versant Power station, just a couple minutes up the road from Court Street in Machias.

Visit local farms and community gardens, connect with others, learn how you can grow and harvest vegetables, all while you are helping your neighbors in need!

You can join us for an hour or for the duration of the work day. We are most flexible. You can come weekly or just come a couple of times. Contact Lucy at 207 479 6940 or by email at lucy.zwigard@healthyacadia.org for more information and to get involved.

You can also sign up using the Google Form here.
