Who We Are
Every day of life matters. At Amedisys, we view hospice services as a means for allowing people to make the very most of their time, even when faced with life-limiting circumstances. This compassionate care is provided in the comfort of your own home – wherever you call home.
Our care is about people helping people, and our team of hospice experts goes to great lengths to help our patients and their loved ones live each day to its fullest. Our approach is so much more than our experienced medical guidance. We foster genuine personal connections that offer emotional, psychological and spiritual support – taking an active role in the interests that bring joy.
For patients, we work specifically to help you achieve your personal goals and to bring joy, comfort, and fulfillment into every moment possible. Patients on our service may continue current treatments, especially those focused on improving quality of life.
What We Do
Ask any of our patients, and they’ll likely tell you the volunteers who visit them touch their hearts. They look forward to the visits and the compassionate caring volunteers bring.
If you have a passion for caring for others and are looking for a way to make a difference in people’s lives, consider becoming a hospice volunteer. Our volunteers are an important part of our hospice care team, helping improve the quality of life for our patients, their families and their caregivers.
What Does a Hospice Volunteer Do?
The activities you will do as an Amedisys hospice volunteer may be many and varied. From reading at a patient’s bedside and knitting lap blankets, to running errands, providing pet therapy or helping with administrative duties - there's a wide range of possibilities. Common volunteer activities often include:
Activities with patients, like reading and writing letters, playing games, participating in pet therapy, scrapbooking or other crafts. In Maine, patients enjoy sitting outside on the porch - people watching, enjoying the sun and conversation with friends.
Helping with household activities like running errands, arranging flowers, walking pets or other tasks to help keep things running smoothly.
Provide emotional support for the patient – and the family – such as providing breaks for family and friend caregivers, making spiritual prayer calls, attending funerals and memorial services and offering companionship to loved ones.
