Hancock County Habitat partners with economically disadvantaged individuals and families to build homes and hope. Through monetary & in-kind donations, volunteer labor, & each homeowner’s “sweat equity", we are able to construct simple, decent, affordable, market-quality homes which are then financed under affordable mortgage loans. Monthly traditional mortgage payments and [in the near future] monies received through third-party financing at closing are recycled back into what Habitat calls “The Fund for Humanity”, which helps support the long-term sustainability of our programs. By offering training in budgeting and financial literacy, teaching home maintenance and repair throughout the build process, and modeling positive community engagement, Habitat helps ensure that our partner families are well prepared to make the transition to becoming successful long-term homeowners.
Hancock County Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy. All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work and apply for housing regardless of race, color, religion, age, handicap, gender, gender expression, orientation, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. E.H.O.
