Who We Are

OHI is a Maine-based, public nonprofit organization providing supports and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, autism spectrum and mental illness for the past 45 years in six Maine counties.  OHI provides 24-hour residential services and various community services for about 600 people with these disabilities to live productively in their communities.  OHI also provides professional development training for people, including family members, caregivers and support workers.  In addition, OHI owns and operates the Brewer Area Food Pantry serving Brewer and Eddington and the Eagle's Nest Clubhouse in Ellsworth, an employment service for adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

What We Do

OHI currently supports more than 600 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental illness in the communities of Bangor, Brewer, Hermon, Eddington, Orrington, Old Town, Orono, Hampden, Holden, Carmel, Levant, Dedham, Howland, Bucksport, Winterport, Ellsworth and Lincoln.  We provide residential support, 24 hour and less than 24 hour which includes community inclusion, for both adults with intellectual disabilities and mental illness; community case management services for the same population in three counties in Maine; and community rehabilitation, daily living skills development and community integration services for adults with mental illness.  We host an annual six-day, five-night summer camp attended annual by about 120 adults with disabilities; 15 percent of the campers have no affiliation with OHI other than camp attendance.  Through the Brewer Area Food Pantry, Brewer and Eddington residents rely monthly on the food distributed out of the facility.
