Restoring
Dignity, Care, and Compassion
During the pandemic, like most
other food organizations, DFAFC adopted a drive-through distribution model. For
36 months people lined up in their vehicles for hours, a neighborhood
spectacle, in order to receive a prepacked box of shelf-stable food, fresh
produce, and meats.
We believed that there was a
better way to serve our community, a way that would treat people with the
respect and dignity they deserved.
We opened our storefront on February 14,
2023, and have succeeded beyond our expectations. We never could have imagined the dramatic
increase in young, large families we would see in such a short period of
time.
Since opening our doors in
February, we have experienced a 200% increase in program registration.
Our constituents live as far away
as Greenville and Parkman to our North, St. Albans, Newport, and Charleston, to
our South, and Old Town, La Grange, and Brewer to our East. Our fastest-growing demographic is children
under age 18 who now account for more than 20% of our shopper population.
Serving more children and families
has provided some of our brightest moments at the Food Center.
