Shaw House is the only youth shelter in this area of Maine and covers the 5 northern counties of Maine; Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Washington and Aroostook.

What We Do

Shaw House offers an emergency shelter for youth ages 10-20 operating between the hours of 7pm and 8am, as well as a Day Drop-In Center operating between the hours of 8am and 7pm, providing 3 meals and 2 snack a day. The Drop-In center offers services from 2 on-site case managers assuring all educational, employment, mental health and medical needs are met. Youth accessing the shelter or Drop- In have access to an on-site housing navigator to assist with long term housing options including transitional living through Mason Place transitional program for youth who require further life skills building opportunities, prior to independent living. The housing navigator offers facilitated life skills groups, to assure youth are prepared for independent living. The shelter and Drop-In provide youth with basic needs items such as hygiene and clothing items. Shaw House offers a mobile Outreach team, Streetlight Outreach, providing basic needs items and referrals to services through engagement with street youth within communities in the 5 northern counties of Maine. All Shaw House programs offer aftercare services assisting youth who have transitioned out of a program offering on-going support from housing navigator or case management, assuring youth have access to everything needed for on-going success.
