Direct care volunteers visit individuals in homes and facilities. They may transport people to appointments, offer respite, check in with a phone call, do light housekeeping, go grocery shopping, play cards, and go for rides. In our rural area, many individuals are isolated, and a visit from a volunteer is often the high point in their week. Because we are a non-medical hospice, a volunteer can serve the same client for months or years. There is no minimum or maximum time commitment. Pine Tree Hospice volunteers serve all of Piscataquis County and parts of Penobscot and Somerset Counties.
