Description

The Delivery Driver is responsible for picking up items in Brewer and delivering and/or transporting meals to patron homes or other specified locations.  The Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver volunteer will pick up meals at the Durgin Center in Brewer and deliver to consumer homes.  Specifics routes and days needed are:

Weekly - Newport - Mondays, 3.5 hours needed, deliver to 8-10 consumers 

Weekly - Bangor - Tuesdays, 2.5 hours needed, deliver to 8-12 consumers

Weekly - Kenduskeag - Wednesdays, 3.5 hours needed, deliver to 5-7 consumers

Weekly - Greenbush - Wednesdays, 2 hours needed, deliver to 5-10 consumers

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Picks up products at the central distribution location.
  2. Follows written and oral directions of the Local Coordinator to make deliveries.
  3. Reports any client concerns to the Local Coordinator immediately (examples include but not limited to: patron, not home or ill; Adult Protective Service (APS) issues; something seems different or unusual).
  4. Tracks and reports volunteer hours and mileage to the Local Coordinator as directed.
  5. Practices food/product safety standards during the performance of duties as advised by the supervisor.       
  6. Understands that distracted driving (talking on the phone, texting, reading map, etc.) is prohibited.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to accurately and securely handle money and provide receipts as well as perform basic mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply, and divide).
  8. Long Distance Drivers may be asked to:
    1. Lift and transport goods into specified locations
    2. Deliver goods outside of regular working hours (8 am-4:30 pm)
    3. Use company vehicle with prior approval

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Maintains confidentiality of all client information.
  2. Represents the Eastern Area Agency on Aging positively by remaining flexible and maintaining a pleasant, friendly, and sociable attitude.
  3. Ability and willingness to travel for position-related requirements.
  4. Provide at least 24 hours notice, whenever possible, when not able to attend scheduled volunteer time due to other obligations or illness.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:

Experience and Skills Preferred:

  • Willingness and interest in helping the elderly population
  • Ability to navigate rural Maine, having access to a GPS system

 Education/Skills:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Knowledge of services and programs available for older persons preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
