Are you interested in the history of the American Civil War? The BHS is looking for volunteers to help at our upcoming Civil War weekend event.
Beginning with an historically accurate encampment, Drums on the Penobscot: A Civil War Experience will give participants and visitors a chance to see what life was like for soldiers and civilians during the "War Between the States."
The line-up of activities includes:
- Encampment
- Firing Competition
- Artillery Demonstration
- Skirmish
- Presentations by local and national Civil War historians
- Mock trial of a deserter
- Learn how to drill like a Civil War soldier
- and more!
Key Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Assist event set up and take down
- Assist in running activities
- Answering questions from visitors
- Duties vary – anything from selling tickets to handing out materials
Training:
- Volunteers are asked to attend an orientation session at the BHS.
Commitment:
- Amount of Time: 3-4 hours shift with breaks
