The volunteers who donate their time to the MDI Hospital Organization play an important role in the experience of our patients and families. They work alongside healthcare professionals, help in non-clinical areas, and support the Hospital’s mission to care for not just the patient, but our entire community.
Office Assistants
Volunteers are needed at our Health Centers to assist with clerical tasks and errands, file, and remind patients of upcoming appointments. Pleasant telephone voice a plus!
Emergency Department
Hosts are needed to greet and provide support to patients, visitors, and guests at the hospital entrance. The host will assist the emergency department staff with clerical tasks and errands, and serve as a general liaison between patients, their families, and hospital staff.
On-Call Volunteers
Do you have time to spend with a patient? Mount Desert Island Hospital and Birch Bay Village need volunteers on an on-call basis to read to patients, do puzzles, watch TV, play card games, or just visit and spend quality time. Help brighten a patient’s day!

The MDI Hospital Auxiliary is looking for new members and leaders to help coordinate and work on fundraising events and activities that benefit the MDI Hospital Organization.
